The Kagumo Mill is located in Kirinyaga County at the foothills of Mount Kenya, some 112km from Nairobi. The county is named after Mount Kenya, which is known to the local community as Kirinyaga, meaning the crest of whiteness, synonymous with its snow-capped peaks.
The Kagumo Mill is part of the Mutira Farmers’ Cooperative Society, formed in 1951 and formally registered in 1954. It draws coffee from roughly 600 farms in the local area.
